Devonport Heritage Extension
This was a design project for a client who we had worked with previously on a major extension in Opua. We developed such a high level of trust that when they relocated to Devonport in Auckland, they realised it wasn’t practical for us to do the build but refused to consider anyone but Natalie to design their extension.
There were many challenges in working within council District Plan rules regarding heritage properties but after careful planning and consultation, this turn of the century cottage was moved away from boundary to meet current fire requirements, raised 300mm to mitigate flood risk, and extended 62 square metres to better suit modern living.
The design resulted in a significantly larger, open plan kitchen/dining area, a modernised bathroom and better indoor-outdoor flow.
This project required extensive research and sensitive design to ensure that the extension melded seamlessly with the existing style and materials.
The dining and living areas open onto a huge deck for easy indoor-outdoor flow – perfect for accessing the woodfire pizza oven and barbecue areas.
